Modern Digital Electronics (MDE) Ghana has commissioned a new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in Kanda, Accra, marking a significant step in its growth strategy and signalling a push into regional markets, including Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The ceremony drew a cross-section of industry stakeholders, among them officials from Ghana Airports Company Limited, Meridian Port Services, Scanport and international partner Smiths Detection. Their longstanding collaboration with MDE has been widely credited for the company’s steady rise within Ghana’s security and technology space.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Benji Kwesi Tachie, told guests the new facility represents more than an upgrade in infrastructure. It reflects the company’s evolution and future ambition.
He recalled MDE’s modest beginnings, operating from under a tree at the airport, before moving into Terminal 2 and gradually expanding its footprint across the country’s aviation ecosystem.
From those early days, MDE has developed a strong presence in security systems deployment. The new headquarters is expected to anchor its next phase of diversification, including a move into healthcare technology and broader critical infrastructure protection.
On expansion, Mr. Tachie disclosed that the company is in advanced stages of engagement with partners in Liberia and Freetown, Sierra Leone. Industry analysts view the move as part of a growing trend among Ghanaian firms seeking to export homegrown technology solutions across the ECOWAS sub-region.
Driving this agenda is Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Board Member, Dr. Osei Kofi Tweneboah, who is spearheading efforts to build the internal systems required for cross-border growth. His mandate includes strengthening technical capacity, refining operational structures and ensuring service consistency as the company scales.
Mr. Tachie acknowledged the role of shareholders and the board in steering the company through what he described as a challenging business environment, noting that their sustained confidence has been instrumental to MDE’s progress.
The event also marked the return of the company’s founder, John Yaw Tweneboah, who attended following a period of medical treatment abroad. Management paid tribute to his entrepreneurial vision, describing it as the foundation of the company’s current trajectory.
It was noted that MDE’s expansion aligns with Ghana’s broader ambition to position itself as a technology and innovation hub in West Africa. With established partnerships spanning both local institutions and global firms, the company is seen as well-placed to compete in new markets.
MDE’s operations cover aviation, urban, ports and border security, as well as defence-related solutions and security screening consultancy. Its offerings include the supply, installation and maintenance of high-resolution X-ray scanners, walkthrough metal detectors and cargo screening systems, all compliant with international aviation and security standards.
The company’s reputation has also been reinforced by its after-sales support, with a 24-hour technical response system and ready access to genuine spare parts—capabilities considered critical in high-security environments.

Representing the Managing Director (MD) of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, was Group Finance Executive, Rev. Dr. John Okwesie Arthur, who commended the partnership between the two institutions.
“For nearly three decades, Modern Digital Electronics has proven itself as a dependable and strategic partner,” he said, highlighting the importance of its screening systems in meeting both national and international aviation security obligations.
He further praised the company’s maintenance responsiveness, noting that its support services have helped sustain operational efficiency across the country’s airports.
Rev. Dr. Arthur urged the company to build on its gains, expressing hope that the new headquarters would serve as a centre for innovation and excellence, while setting new standards in safety, security and operational reliability.
