TTU lines up activities to commemorate its 70th anniversary

The Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has initiated series of activities culminating to the celebration of its 70th anniversary.

The University, over the last three scores plus a decade has churn out graduates who are impacting the society with competency-based skill training and excellence.

The celebration, will be on the theme “70 years of societal relevance, projecting excellence and innovation in technical and vocational education and training”.

Vice Chancelor of TTU, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, at a media engagement at TTU campus explained that “the 70th anniversary of TTU is a momentous occasion, a time for us to reflect on our rich heritage, celebrate our achievements, and reaffirm our commitment to excellence in technical and vocational education”.

Over the past seven decades, he said the university, has played a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of the Western Region and contributing to the socio-economic development of the nation.

“As we embark on this journey of celebration, it is important to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of all those who have been instrumental in the success of TTU.

From our visionary founders and dedicated faculty to our diligent staff and enthusiastic students, each member of our university community has played a vital role in advancing our mission of academic excellence and community empowerment” he added.

According to him, the anniversary serves as an opportunity for the university to share their story with the world, showcase the transformative impact of TTU on the lives of students, alumni, and the broader community.

“Through strategic media engagement, we aim to amplify our message of excellence, innovation, and service while also fostering greater awareness and appreciation for the work we do”, he said.

“As we look ahead to the future, we are filled with optimism and excitement for the opportunities that lie ahead. The challenges facing higher education are significant, but with the dedication, resilience, and ingenuity of our university community, I am confident that we will continue to thrive and make a positive impact on society for generations to come” he said.

Pro. Vice Chancellor of TTU, Prof. Victor Kweku Bondzie Micah, who gave an overview about the anniversary explained that “we are here, to tell our story through the media especially on the successes, total changes that has come about and dwell more on the visibility”.
He said the university, has made an indelible mark in the history of Ghana and the world at large through hands-on training.

“We want to sell our smart innovations by students, lecturers and some individuals and encouraged the media to support in promoting the activities of TTU especially in soliciting for funds for the anniversary”, he said.

Prof. Abigail Padi, Chairperson for the TTU Anniversary Committee mentioned that activities for celebrations, have been categorized in areas such as education, sports and entertainment.

These, she revealed as “Alumini round table conference, inter union sports activities, convocation lecture series, float within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, night with CEO’s, health screening, donations as well as painting around the Takoradi Market Circle and clean-up exercise”.

She said, “there would be technology fair to show what we have been able to do as a university and crown it with a ground durbar, an awards night and then thanksgiving service”.
