The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), is gearing-up to host the 4th Financial Innovation and Enterprise (FIE) Conference – a landmark event aimed at exploring how to promote sustainable enterprises in developing and emerging economies.

The conference will be held in collaboration with Birmingham City University, University of Sunderland in London, and the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE) from today Thursday, December 14, to Friday, December 15, 2023.

Building on the legacy of innovation

FIE2023 builds on the rich legacy of previous FIE conferences, renowned for fostering dialogue, sharing insights and catalysing change in the financial and entrepreneurial sectors. This year’s theme, ‘Promoting Sustainable Enterprises in Developing and Emerging Economies’, delves deep into the challenges and opportunities these regions face in building businesses which are not only profitable but also environmentally responsible, socially inclusive and economically viable in the long-term.

Exploring key questions for sustainable growth

The conference will delve into intricate questions surrounding the relationship between entrepreneurial education, the business environment and financial systems in promoting sustainable enterprises. Key questions to be addressed include:

  • How can entrepreneurial education be tailored to support the growth of sustainable businesses in developing economies?
  • What innovative financial tools and systems can be introduced to accelerate the growth of sustainable enterprises?
  • How can the business environment be optimised to encourage the inception and development of sustainable enterprises?
  • What role do public-private partnerships play in bolstering the financial and entrepreneurial ecosystem in developing economies?
  • How can we bridge the gap between traditional financial systems and modern fintech solutions to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all entrepreneurs?

Catalysing change through knowledge exchange and collaboration

FIE2023 will not be just another conference; it will be a catalyst for change. Leading academics, industry leaders and policymakers will gather to share cutting-edge research, best practices and innovative strategies, fostering partnerships and joint ventures that lead to actionable solutions for the challenges faced by developing and emerging economies.

Developing policy recommendations for a conducive environment

Drawing from insights and discussions at the conference, a set of actionable policy recommendations will be formulated to guide governments and institutions in creating a more conducive environment for sustainable enterprises, ensuring alignment with global best practices.

Through workshops, seminars and training sessions, FIE2023 will enhance the skills and knowledge of participants – equipping them with the tools they need to drive change in their respective fields; be it academia, business or policymaking.

Vice President Bawumia to grace opening ceremony

The opening ceremony at UPSA Auditorium will be graced by Special Guest of Honour, the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, underscoring government’s commitment to fostering sustainable enterprise development.
