7th Manufacturing Awards honours best in industry

Leading companies and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding performances in the country’s manufacturing industry were honoured at the seventh edition of the Ghana Manufacturing Awards.

An initiative of Xodus Communications Limited, the Ghana Manufacturing Awards celebrated these companies and individuals for demonstrating stewardship, health and safety, corporate social responsibility and innovation in the manufacturing sector.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Events Director of Xodus Communications, Richard Abbey Jnr, said this year’s awards focused on innovation in the industry, with an ultimate aim of compelling individuals and companies to compete locally and globally.

Contribution of manufacturing sector

Mr.  Abbey Jnr emphasised the sector’s contributions to national development, pointing out that some manufacturers have stood the test of time while others have added value and innovated over the years. “We believe in Ghanaian manufacturing and its contribution to the economy and the community, and that is why we are here to celebrate and salute achievers in the industry,” he stated.

He said the awards look out for the very best in manufacturing from all aspects of the industry, sharing landmark work and developments taking place across so many important areas of science, engineering, innovation and technology.

He mentioned that the winners were selected by an independent advisory board and technical committee who evaluated the awardees based on criteria listed for each category. He said the awards have over the last seven years celebrated excellence and professional standards in the manufacturing industry, and will continue to do so.

Award winners

Twellium Manufacturing Company was the biggest winner on the night, winning Manufacturing Company of the Year. The company also won the Beverages Producing Company of the Year – Non-Alcoholic and Confectionary Producing Company of the Year.

Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Centre walked away with Pharmaceutical Company of the Year; Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility; Excellence in Health, Safety, Environment and Quality; and Marketing Campaign of the Year.

Blowchem Industries Limited also won the Beverages Producing Company of the Year (Alcoholic); Brand of the Year Award (Carbonated Drink); and Water Producing Company of the Year.

GB Foods Ghana Limited was adjudged Innovative Company of the Year and Best Growing Manufacturing Company of the Year while its Gino Tomato Mix was adjudged Product of the Year.

Poly Tank Ghana won the Plastic Manufacturing Company of the Year and Industry Leadership Awards.

Jay Kay Industries won Paper and Paper Products Company of the Year, with Fabrimetal Ghana winning the Brand of the Year Award (Metal).

The Indigenous Company of the Year award went to Gilsan Manufacturing Company Limited.

The CEO of B5 Plus, Mukesh Thakwani, won the CEO of the Year Award, while the CEO of Alpha TND Limited, Pankaj Bhati, won Entrepreneur of the Year.
