The Member of Parliament for Upper West Akim in the Eastern Region, Derek Ohene Bekoe Asifo, has donated GH₵15,000.00 to fifteen freshly graduated fashion-designers in Adeiso.

He had promised to give GH₵1,000.00 to each of the young ladies early this year, when he was invited to their graduation, as a seed capital to enable them put up something that will help them start working instead of living idly.

According to Ohene Bekoe, a former DCE for the area, he is gradually fulfilling the promises which he made during the campaign to be elected MP.

Addressing the beneficiaries, fashion proprietress and the people gathered, the MP (Bako pe, as he is affectionately called) said he is poised to alleviate youth unemployment by empowering the youth, women, children and assisting in paying school fees for the needy.

“I have put 43 young ladies into learning hairdressing and fashion-designing. I bought sewing machines, hair-dryers, paid their entrance fees and all necessary requirements, and have consistently been visiting them,” Ohene Bekoe said.

The Bamakohene of Adeiso, Nana Etuah, commended the MP for his initiatives and support for the community.

Nana Etuah revealed that since assuming the position of ruling the people of Adeiso he has not seen anything of the kind, and thinks his people did not make a mistake in electing Ohene Bekoe to represent them in Parliament.

The Upper West Akim district finance officers were on hand to sign the beneficiaries’ cheques for proper accountability, since the money is supposed to be withdrawn from the MP’s common fund.
