Ghana’s biggest choral music brand, Harmonious Chorale (HC) Ghana, held a grand concert in Accra last Sunday at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) to mark its 10th anniversary of ministry.

The concert dubbed “Nyame Ye Concert” (NYC) was on the theme “Celebrating 10 Years of God’s Goodness.” The occasion was graced by personalities such as former President Jerry John Rawlings, local and international songwriters, composers, past members of Harmonious Chorale and some family and friends.

The group, over the last decade, has partnered with Dr Joyce Rosalind Aryee’s Salt and Light Music Ministries (SLMM). In a message, Dr Aryee said SLMM was established to use music, particularly hymns and sacred choral music to deepen the worship of God through concerts.

“Together, the group organises concerts three times a year which includes Christmas and Easter concerts, evening with composers and production oratorios,” she said.

The event saw spiritually filled performances from the choir, with tunes such as “Your Grace and Mercy”. Over 30 songs including chorale music and praise songs were performed.

Dr Aryee expressed delight that the choir had realised its objectives over the last 10 years. She added that the group had plans of establishing a music academy to train people in performing hymns, classicals, voice and conducting.

The harmonious chorale was founded in October 2005 as Harmonious Quartet under the leadership of James Varrick Armaah. The quartet comprised of the following brethren: Cynthia Doreen Nti Awusi (Soprano); Emmanuel Acheampong Parry (Alto); Eddie Gaisie (Tenor); and Kennedy Dankwa Duodu (Bass). In September 2007, the decision to expand the numerical strength of the Quartet was made. This led to the formation of The Harmonious Chorale.

The Harmonious Chorale is a certified choral group under section 27 and 28 of the companies code, Act 179. Since its formation in 2007, the choir through dedication and hard work by its membership has carved for itself an image and an identity. With mature voices, unity of purpose for ministration and dynamics, they thrill their audience and well-wishers and continue to treat them to soul inspiring repertoires.

The choir is under the Chairmanship of Dr. Joyce R. Aryee, the founder and Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries and the directorship of James Varrick Armaah, a composer, and graduate from the school of performing arts Music Department of the University of Ghana, Legon.

Harmonious Chorale has among its visions to promote the musical composition of Ghanaian and African religious (Church) musicians, to evangelize to the world through its melodious repertoires and tunes and most importantly be witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ. The choir numerical strength stands at 60.
