A final year student of Central University College, Eric Nortey, has been crowned winner of ‘My Area Code Reality Show’.

Unlike several other developmental events, My Area Code Reality Show scouts contestants from a community to represent that community with an agenda of embarking on weekly developmental projects for eight weeks.

The contestant with the highest number of votes from the public and a peculiar project idea is selected as winner where he/she is to embark on a major developmental project in his/her community. This project also develops and projects the talents of the contestants through weekly in-house tasks.

The third season of the show challenged the contestants to embark on a charity project. They fed 200 children on the streets of Osu and La in Accra, donated a wheelchair to a crippled in Kumasi, a school painting project as well as a tree planting project in Dansoman. The contestants also enrolled four unemployed youth into a vocation of their preference.

The reality TV show started with 15 contestants representing different communities with the aim of embarking on a developmental project in their communities. Eventually, five contestants made it to the final round where Eric Nortey beat from Kasoa emerged as winner.

For Eric, the straw that broke the camel’s back was his apt presentation of executing his project on educating his community members on sanitation. He said: “Government is putting in so much effort to put the nation on an international level but how can this happen when the people of the nation are sick or are unwell to be employed or go to school as a result of the filthy environment they find themselves in. I think a project such as mine, which I dubbed Operation Stop the Flood, will go a long way to change the lifestyle of my people. I believe my project, includes education on keeping the environment clean including personal hygiene as well as the introduction of boreholes for my community is a laudable idea which I know won the hearts of the judges”.

Prizes for Eric included cash prize of ten thousand Ghana cedis, mentorship and products from sponsors. Abigail Naa Laryea and Gordon Nii Odartey Wilson took the second and third positions respectively.

Speaking to the media, Host and Public Relations Officer, Achawa Sackey, stated that they faced minor challenges which nearly marred the success of the programme. She said: “some of the community’s do not support the contestants  at all. We therefore need political, social and religious leaders to support the show because it a community based show for humanity, community and development”.

Organizers of the show are DA multimedia, Daysman Addo, CEO and Executive producer and James Eduful creative design.

Sponsors include Best points savings and loans, Special range of drinks, Aqua Safari resort, Endpoint homoeopathic clinic, The Boy jewelry shop, Allure spa in the city and Dekab
