The 1993 Year Group of the Old Achimotan Association (OAA), have handed over a digitisation project to the school, as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Akora Kweku Agbesi, Head of the refurbishment project said, “We are doing this project because we wanted to take Achimota School to the 21st century. At the moment, a lot of things done here are manual. A lot of the records are taken manually. We still have notebooks in which students’ names and prospectus are recorded manually.

What we wanted to do was to make it paperless and digital to make the school more efficient. So we had one of our course mates, design a system which will take the students records electronically in addition.”

Akora Kweku Agbesi added that under the digitisation project, all alumni records will also be archived digitally over the next couple of years.

The project also included renovation of infrastructure and provision of some electronic devices to assist in the digitisation objective.

“We’ve modernised the offices as well. We’ve provided 15 new laptops and computers for the school building, some furniture, painting and air conditioners as well. As it stands now the staff are really enjoying their office,” he said.

Headmistress of Achimota School, Mrs. Joyce Addo was grateful for the project and assured the old students of good maintenance of the facility.

“We thank you for your immense contribution to the school, that we can always call on you when the need arises. On behalf of the staff and students I promise that this facility will be preserved and put to good use,” she said.

The Achimota School Digitisation project is in fulfillment of an obligation which requires that all year groups complete a project in support of the institution to help in its development.

“Anybody who completes Achimota School, needs to come back 25 years later to complete a legacy project. We completed in 1993 and 2018 is 25 years so we decided to come back and give back to our alma mater.

I sincerely believe that I got a lot out of the school and it has contributed to who I am now. So we are just giving back what they impacted in us. That is the idea behind the legacy project,” Akora Kweku Agbesi concluded.

The year group will sign off their 25th anniversary celebrations with the Founders Day Torchlight Procession and Bonfire Night on Friday.
