The National Pensioners Association of Ghana (NPA) held its delegates conference in Tamale in the Northern Region as part of its Golden Jubilee celebration.

The event which came off on Tuesday, 13th March, 2018, was to address pressing issues affecting the fast growing association as it marks 50 years, of solidarity and peaceful existence with one another. Speaking at the function, General Secretary of the association, Edward Ameyibor called for the integration of all pensioners associations under one umbrella for a common course.

He said the association has grown from a little over 20,000 to 70, 000 membership within a decade, but they are yet to meet a projected growth rate of 20percent per annum. Mr. Ameyibor called on all members to put their hands on deck to formulate programmes and projects that will attract non-members to the association.

He applauded the efforts of the current SSNIT board in plugging all loopholes aimed at diverting pension monies for other purposes. He reminded SSNIT of its responsibility as a social protection scheme to help retired persons to receive security and regular support. He urged the Trust to be diligent in the management of its investments and pension funds.

The General Secretary noted that the associations relationship with the National Pensions Administrator, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is very important to every member hence the need to jealously guard against any form of misrepresentations from either side.

The event which was held at the Global Dream Hotel was attended by the Tamale Area Manager of SSNIT, Jos- Arris Bougre who reassured the pensioners that their welfare remains a major concern to SSNIT.
