The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has said the various schools across the country have already been fumigated and disinfected various quantities of PPE have been provisioned to cater for the students, teachers and non-teaching staff, as they reopen tomorrow.
In all about 750,000 persons, comprising 532,000 JHS 3 students, and 218,000 teaching and non-teaching staff, and invigilators, are to return to post.
It is against this backdrop, that while assuring parents and guardians that the lives of the students and teachers will not be placed risked, the President indicated that the government has procured and distributed PPE across the country to the various schools for use.
These include 45,000 Veronica Buckets, 90,000 gallons of liquid soap, 90,000 rolls of tissue paper, 40,000 thermometer guns; and 750,000. pieces of 200mils sanitizers.
Additionally, he said about “2.2 million reusable facemasks, three per person, all with the intent of guaranteeing the safety of the students, teaching and non-teaching staff.”
He further noted that two masks each will be delivered tomorrow, and the third within the next two weeks.
The President who was speaking in his 13th COVID address to the nation also said the returning final year JHS students are expected to follow similar health restrictions as placed on the final year university and senior high school (SHS) students who returned to school some weeks earlier.
The final JHS students are expected to be in school for eleven weeks for the preparation and revision, before spending the following week to take the BECE.
