We have not abandoned old projects – Health Minister

The Minister for Health, Mr. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, has assured that government has not abandoned any health facility under construction by the previous government as speculated by a section of Ghanaians after the 8th Address to the nation by President Akufo-Addo.

He said government has constructed and completed 10 polyclinics in the Central Region.

“The Bekwai District Hospital was resumed under ex-president John Agyekum Kuffuor’s administration but was abandoned after he left. However, work has resumed under this administration.”

“We have commissioned the Wa Regional Hospital and it is in use at the moment. We have also completed the Ga-East Regional Hospital and it is also in use at the moment as a treatment centre,” said Mr. Agyemang-Manu.

The Minister revealed that there has been parliamentary approval to finish details to enable contractors selected with funding to go and complete Shammah and La General hospitals.

Again, he revealed that 12 hospitals in the Eastern, Ashanti and Greater Accra regions have also received parliamentary approval for completion, adding that Ridge Hospital has so far, been 70 percent operationalized.

“The upgrade of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, which should have also been done before the assumption of office of this present government, has been completed and commissioned. Work will also soon start on the uncompleted Komfo Anokye Maternity and Children’s block, in Kumasi. We needed to complete what we came to meet whilst we planned to do our own.”

The Minister disclosed that the sod cutting exercise for the completion of the Komfo Anokye Maternity and Children’s block will be done and the construction exercise will commence once the ban on social and public gathering is lifted.
