MOFCOM Alumni to explore opportunities through networking

Members of the Ministry of Commerce Alumni Association Ghana (MoSAAG) as part of effort to network with fellow scholarship beneficiaries and explore opportunities from various sectors, has launched its maiden Network Event in Accra.

The event which brought together MOFCOM scholars also intend to promote Sino-Africa relations.

In a remark, the president of MoSAAG, Sualah Zougrana Yazid who double as a Lecturer at the Islamic university said “the association was established to bring together beneficiaries of MOFCOM scholarship under one umbrella, and also equip them to better serve and promote the interest of Sino-Africa (Ghana) relations”.

He opined that “a virtual connection of Alumni is great but the ability to connect with former students in real life is even better, because there are no better ambassadors for a university as its alumni”.

“We would want to bring to the notice of members that and those who are yet to join that, MoSAAG has been fully registered as an Association under the laws of Ghana and an account has been opened for the Association,” he said.

He disclosed that the Association also intend to embark on some humanitarian projects such as donating to orphanage homes and children living with AIDS.

The public relations officer (PRO) of the Association, Esther Atibo Atubiga elaborated that the donation would target orphanage homes from the greater Accra Region and in long term, extend to other regions.

She reiterated that “periodically MoSAAG will have these network events to exchange ideas and update members on current trends in our occupations, the hazards and how to prepare ourselves for the job market and the changing trend that employers want from employee.”

“We will encourage those who had the opportunity to study under the scholarship scheme to join the MoSAAG group.” She added

She urged the public especially those who want to do their masters to consider China adding that the Universities do a lot more practicals just as the universities in the western countries and that it presents a lot of opportunities as well.

For his Part, the President of China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Ghana, Xia Dedong Kevin commended MoSAAG for the initiative adding it would encourage internal communication, exchange of culture and offer the scholars new opportunities.

Speaking on how Chinese enterprises are doing in Ghana and how they are impacting the economy, he intimated that, ensuring economic growth in this current dispensation demands support for business from various sectors including the government.

“Because of the effect of COVID-19 on businesses, I think we need more opportunities, more policies, not only Chinese companies, all the enterprises in Ghana needs more support from government” he said.

The MOFCOM Fellowship was established by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China with the aim of strengthening communication and cooperation between China and other countries and developing the talents of developing countries by offering scholarship opportunities to students from developing countries.
