Preparations for the Ghana Energy Awards 9th edition have officially begun, with the awarding panel holding its first sitting on Tuesday, 15th July 2025 in Accra.

The session marked a beginning of deliberations for this year’s awards and brought together a distinguished panel of experts from academia, policy, law and industry. The panel is chaired by lawyer Kwame Jantuah, a seasoned legal practitioner and governance advocate.

Other members include economist and international evangelist Dr. Lawrence Tetteh; former Energy Commission Board Chairman, Dr. Kwame Ampofo; Dr. Jemima Nunoo, former Director at GIMPA’s Centre for Management Development; and Professor Felix Asante, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation and Development at the University of Ghana.

This year’s edition is of particular significance as it will be the first held under a new national leadership. Ahead of the panel’s sitting, extensive stakeholder engagements were conducted to capture changing priorities of the energy sector and broader development landscape.

Event Director Henry Teinor highlighted the role these engagements have played: “Stakeholder feedback has been instrumental in aligning the Ghana Energy Awards with the sector’s current operational realities. Over the past four months, we’ve held engagements across the energy value chain to better understand emerging challenges. Expectations for this year’s event are understandably high”.

The first panel sitting featured strategic discussions aimed at reviewing stakeholder input, assessing sector performance and refining planned activities for the 2025 awards.

Chairman of the panel,  Kwame Jantuah, explained: “This initial meeting allows us to assess key developments in the sector and ensure that our award categories remain relevant and impactful. Our focus is on setting meaningful benchmarks for recognition”.

Anticipation is building ahead of the 9th Ghana Energy Awards official Media Launch, during which the theme and award categories will be announced alongside opening the nominations window.

The Ghana Energy Awards is fully endorsed by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, its allied agencies and the World Energy Council-Ghana.
