Over 600 customers at the Mile 50 Business Centre and Taifa branches of ASA Savings and Loans Ltd. have benefitted from a free health screening exercise.

They were screened for hepatitis B, malaria, sugar, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and other vitals – such as temperature, respiratory rate. Beneficiaries also had consultancy with the doctor.

According to Mr. David Amevor, Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans Ltd., the health screening is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

“As a financial institution, the health of our customers is very important to us, and we treat and give free medication to our clients during this exercise,” he said.

Mr. Patrick Opoku Darko, Branch Manager of the company at Taifa, explained that ASA has been supporting small and medium enterprises to grow and expand their businesses with some loans.

Dr. Quist Kingsley, who was in charge of the screening from Haven Health Services, pointed out that some clients tested positive to malaria, and were given treatment with free insecticide treated nets.

Also, he said those with critical conditions were encouraged to seek medical assistance at a health facility close by.

“A lot of them had their body mass index above normal (overweight and obese). They were counselled on their diet and the need for healthy living habits,” he said.

Commenting, he said: “The programme in general has been successful, and I will suggest if it will be organised regularly since a lot of clients showed up for the screening and were happy about such a great initiative taken up by ASA Savings and Loans Ltd.” Dr. Quist added.

He urged the clients of ASA to visit the hospital for regular check-ups and not only when they are seriously sick.
