TEWU honours 27 past national officers

Twenty-seven past national officers of the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of TUC –Ghana, have been honoured for their dedication and sacrifices in promoting the growth of the union as well as consolidating its gain.

The ceremony took place at the union’s hospitality facility known as TEWU House at Abeka Lapaz, and saw awardees – made up of 12 females and 15 males – presented with plaques which had inspirational and appreciative words, in addition to cash donations.

Past officers celebrated at the event were: the immediate past National Chairman – Mr. Peter K. Lumor; First National Vice Chairman – Mr. Bismark Bawah; Second National Vice Chairperson – Madam Florence Agyei-Wiredu; First National Trustee – Mr. William Adjei-Twumasi; and General Secretary – Mr. Augustine Saakuur-Karbo.



The others are TEWU Women’s Committee National President – Madam Johanna Hammond; Women’s Committee National Vice President – Madam Ethel Nyadroh; Women’s Committee National Secretary -Madam Gloria Aba Kinful; Women’s Committee Second National Trustee – Madam Janet Emefa Obro-Adibo; Women’s Committee, Northern Regional President – Madam Okailey Randolf; and Women’s Committee, Northern Regional Secretary – Madam Diana Serwaa Ali.

The rest of the recipients were members of the National Executive Council (NEC), Finance Committee and TEWU Fund Board of Trustees.

For his part, Mr. Peter K. Lumor, the Immediate Past National Chairman, used the occasion to thank TEWU for honouring past executives of the union for services rendered, and urged people aspiring for union leadership to be mentored, and study under experienced people to succeed in their endeavours.

Meanwhile, Mark Dankyira Korankye, the current General Secretary of TEWU of TUC, noted that the union was saluting all past gallant leaders, and telling them that they’re appreciated for their sacrifice to union.

He commended them for their service, which he described as invaluable that cannot be quantified.

“It is my expectation that occasions such as awarding people who have diligently served the union, and impacted positively the lives of the vulnerable in particular, will be a shining example so that we also can strive to bring the union up to a certain level where others will later come, and continue from where we left.”
