Nana Kwamina Dekye I, Guantuahen of Shama Traditional Council, has handed over a mechanised borehole to supply water to Essuman community in the Shama District of the Western Region.

“The mechanised borehole is in response to a request made by the Chief and people, and I had to do my possible best to ensure that they have access to a sustainable system of water,” he said.

He explained that the borehole is connected through to a stand-pipe at every compound to make water easily available at their door-step.

Nana Kwamina Dekye I, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Lower Pra Rural Bank PLC., praised the community members for supporting the contractor in executing the project on time, and urged them to ensure regular maintenance.

Mark Cobinnah, Chief Executive Officer of Mark Ventures – Contractor for the mechanised borehole, explained that the borehole would provide 8,000 litres of water daily.

Chief of Essumankrom, Nana Dauda Ahmed, commended the Guantuahen of Shama for his continued support to the community over the years.

“Water is life, and in the Quran, this gesture shows that you are kind to all. The community will maintain it as we have done with all projects in the past,” he said.

He appealed to the Guantahen and other philanthropists to support the renovation of the only school in the community which was established in 1988.

“Teachers who accept postings to this area come; and then in less than a month, you will not see them again. Some even cry when they get here because we are in a remote area, and the unmotorable nature of the road does not attract teachers to the school,” he pointed out.

“For three months, vehicles which ply this area have stopped because of the bad nature of the road, and the only bridge in the town is currently not accessible,” he bemoaned, calling on the District Assembly and other organisations to support.

Responding, Nana Kwamina Dekye I promised to renovate the school and directed them to seek other support from the Muslim Council since it is a Muslim Community.

In a related development, the Guatuahen of Shama Traditional Council has constructed and furnished an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Centre at Botodwina in the Mpohor District of the Western Region with desktop computers and desks.

He said the ICT Centre is to encourage the schools at Botodwina to be abreast with technology, and to enable them compete favourably with students in the urban centres.

He urged them to put the computers to good use and maintain the centre properly for other students to benefit in terms of learning.

Nana Kofi Dentu, Ebusuapayin of Botodwina, thanked the Guantuahen of Shama Traditional Council for the kind gesture.

Abdul Rauf Fuseine, Headteacher of Botodwina D/A JHS, said the ICT centre will aid in teaching and learning.
