The second edition of the ‘Ghana Chicken Festival’ (GHACHICK) is slated to take place on Monday, May 2, 2022, at the Coconut Grove Hotel, Accra.

The second edition of the ‘Ghana Chicken Festival’ (GHACHICK) is slated to take place on Monday, May 2, 2022, at the Coconut Grove Hotel, Accra.

Organized by Agrihouse Foundation, the full day event, is designed to promote the consumption and patronage of local poultry products, and also helps to create sustainable awareness on the nutritional value of poultry products amongst Ghanaians.

GHACHICK also aims to bring together families in a recreational atmosphere to savour locally bred chicken and other allied poultry products.

Last year’s maiden edition drew attention to numerous opportunities within the poultry industry, with twenty (20) business executives and media influencers, serving as advocates for the poultry farmers by calling on Ghanaian consumers, restaurant owners, hotels, local food vendors, households and individuals to patronize and consume locally bred fowls.

The CEO’s and influencers participated in the highly publicized and anticipated “Chef Competition” which challenged them to step out of their comfort zones to showcase their culinary skills, a side of them usually not in the spotlight, and thus, added more spice to the fun-format of the event.

Renowned Media Practitioner, Mr. Kafui Dey, won the cooking competition, and in his acknowledgement, described GHACHICK Festival as one of a kind of event, which created room for diverse stakeholders to engage and throw light on issues, bedeviled the poultry sector, whiles celebrating its successes.

In a press statement ahead of this year’s event, Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa Sarpong, has noted that the upcoming edition would be an improvement on the maiden event, which brought together over Fifty (50) Households, to relax and network; and in the process, gained access to poultry farmers and agric companies who have currently become their suppliers of poultry products.

Last year’s event further opened up markets for Poultry farmers, processors and actors in related poultry fields, through a highly successful media advocacy drive on radio, television, print and online mediums.

She said this edition is bringing on board stakeholders and individuals from the poultry value chain, corporate worlds to continue to promote and advocate the importance of the consumption of local poultry.

The ultimate goal of this initiative is to encourage the purchase and consumption of local poultry to Ghanaians; create a platform for households, stakeholders to be informed about the significance of consuming locally bred birds (chicken, guinea fowl and turkey), as they enjoy a fun-filled moment with family and friends. It is aims to increase the number of local poultry producers and encourage corporate organization to investment in local poultry production, she added.

The event will be held in a fun, lively and safe atmosphere for families, religious organizations, corporate institutions, social groups, individuals, local poultry farmers and producers, associations, agribusiness startups to interact, network  and transact business. Participants will have the opportunity to savour delicacies prepared by local chefs who will be on hand to serve mouth-watering poultry delicacies.

The year, the “CEO Chef competition,” will again be a highlighting aspect of the event, and will see Heads of Corporate entities compete for bragging-rights to the accolade of best CEO-Chef. To cater for the fun needs of families, games like: Draughts, Oware, Scrabble, Ludo and Monopoly have been embedded into the event programme. Similarly, side attractions like cotton candy, face painting, bouncy castles will seek to engage children at the event.

The one-day event will take the form of an outdoor garden party with live band music and other side attractions that encourages relaxations and merriment.
