What is Expert Status?

If you drive a Bugatti or Ferrari, would you want just any mechanic to fix your car?

Largely speaking, if you are highly skilled and knowledgeable in your field, then you may be considered an expert. Expert status is becoming an authority in your field.

We will be using the words expert and authority interchangeably.

Why is Expert Status important?

There are several reasons why expert status can be important. Becoming an expert in your field offers you many opportunities and benefits, here are some of them to get you geared up for success with examples from ordinary people doing extraordinary work with their expert status:

  • Problem solver: Becoming an expert in your field offers you increased knowledge and the ability to solve problems. The more you learn in your field, the more you can do and the better you can serve others. In the year 2020, when the pandemic hit the world so hard. Total Petroleum Ghana (TPG) needed a local firm to fabricate a customized product for them – protective shields, guess whose name and firm came up? Selorm of Seloart Ltd. Simply put, they delivered the products in an amazing record time, yes! Experts have mastered their game and do deliver on their promised values.

Over the years Seloart has built his expertise in The Sign Making and fabrication business riding on technology, innovation, and creativity. They have become the authorities in the industry providing solutions to seemingly insurmountable challenges.

When you become an expert through years of experience and learning, taking on new challenges and growing from them. The challenges you face in your learning and growing stages enable you to develop a deeper understanding of your field and what it takes to be successful. This increased knowledge and ability to solve problems makes you an invaluable asset.

When people are in need of a solution they don’t seek the hyped they seek those with proven track records – experts.

  • Better opportunities:

People are often more likely to offer you better opportunities if they know you are an expert in your field. A young IT Specialist in Ghana – Justice Akpadie Jnr., known on digital platforms as Idea Prince. His specialty is coding and developing mobile applications got him hired by several multinational companies, currently serving as the National IT Consultant to the Nations Development Programme (UNDP, Ghana). He had all these opportunities to share his expertise because they got to know him as an expert in his field. This could mean a promotion at your job, access to new, more lucrative markets, or even participation in research projects.

  • Increased Income. As your expertise increases, so too does the demand for your services. Bernice Adjei Marfo is a certified Personal Executive Assistant who works with one of the most successful financial educational institutions in the world. Based on her expertise, coupled with her Linkedin profile, she got the opportunity to be interviewed by many recruiters and firms. As she wowed them with her expertise her salary demands also sky-rocketed. If you are that good, a premium price will be placed on you. This can increase your salary, as well as opportunities to work with more prestigious clients and companies. If you want to maximize your earning potential and find the best job opportunities, keep your skills up-to-date and stay ahead of the curve.
  • Increased Credibility. When you become an expert in your field, you are seen as a credible and reliable source of information. In many instances I have seen people post on Social Media – Facebook requesting help from an expert. In one instance someone wanted an expert in security installing devices. I quickly left the name Jonathan Agyemang of fortifyID Systems Limited. Later in the evening, I noticed that so many others had mentioned his name and firm under the post. Wow! To cut a long story short, he got the job done for the client, he over delivered. It goes to say that he has built-in expertise in his field and become credible for the outstanding services he and his form offers. Listen, in the security space you can thrive on hype, you need to be credible and that’s what they have become – credible.

People come to you for advice and look to you for guidance. This increased respect and credibility can lead to better gigs, job opportunities, more prestigious assignments, and greater earning potential.

  • Customer Satisfaction: Exceed client’s expectations. Becoming an expert in your field offers you Greater ability to meet or exceed customer expectations

In the year 2021, a US Based technology firm engaged a young Digital marketing consultant to help their startup in Ghana scale up. Gad Ocran, got hired and within a month of his appointment, he exceeded Cadana’s financial goal for that year. Gad Ocran over-delivered – that’s what you get when you pay the price for an expert. Your expertise enables you to diagnose customers’ needs and help meet their expectations. You know what the customer expects and you can exceed their expectations. You know the ins and outs of the products or services you offer and can provide the best possible customer experience. This can help you build a loyal customer base and create lasting relationships.

Being an expert also allows you to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and developments in your industry. You can share this information with your customers, which will help them stay ahead of the curve. Additionally, you can use this knowledge to improve your business practices.

Ultimately, becoming an expert in your field can help you succeed with ease.
