Stanbic Bank reiterates commitment to Green Enterprises

Stanbic Bank Ghana has reiterated its commitment to sustainability and Green living.

Speaking at the Ghana Garden and Flower Show conference in Accra, the Officer-in-Charge, Environmental Sustainability and Social Risk at Stanbic Bank, Joseph Amo-Adjei said:

“As a bank, we have shown our commitment to supporting green businesses by being signatories to the SDGs, the principles for responsible banking, the Equator Principles, the sustainable banking principles etc. To help sustain green businesses, we are working to integrate sustainable finance in our business to purposely serve our clients in this space. Currently, our robust Environmental and Social Risk processes enable us to identify and mitigate any negative impact a transaction may have on the environment and society.”  The bank considers such support for green initiatives as a responsibility and a core part of its business, Mr. Amo-Adjei said.

According to him: “The bank is in the process of developing standard products and services such as energy-efficiency revolving loans, sustainable trade loans and overdrafts, as well as retrofitting solutions etc. in line with the green loan principles. In the interim, bespoke structuring of green loan facilities are done for our clients with the leveraged expertise of the Standard Bank Group Sustainable finance team”.

Joseph Amo-Adjei encouraged all stakeholders to do their part in ensuring a sustainable environment. He concluded that: “Across the world, green enterprises and issues of environmental sustainability are becoming a business imperative. As we deliberate on these issues here today, let us all be reminded that contributing our quota begins with being aware of the critical issues and how important it is for us all to make changes which ensure sustainability. It is my hope that this conversation will be the beginning of practical steps which guarantee the sustainability of green enterprises”.

Ms. Esther A. N Cobbah, CEO of Strategic Communications Africa Ltd. – initiators and organiser of the show – says: “Stanbic Bank is clearly walking the talk in relation to Sustainability, and we at Stratcomm Africa and the Movement continue to experience their unfailing support for the show. We are proud of this partnership”.

The 9th edition of the Ghana Garden and Flower Show was held under the theme ‘9G: Nine years of green living’.
