COVID-19: Ban on public gatherings partially lifted

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that the ban on social gatherings will be partially lifted on Friday, June 5, 2020 across the country.

He, however, strongly warned that Ghanaians adhere to the protocols such as social distancing and regular hands-washing.

He made this revelation during his 10th address to the nation on measures taken against the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.

“A consensus has emerged after stakeholder consultations that the country should embark on safe easing of these restrictions to get our lives on the economy back to normal. We are now in a position to outline a roadmap for easing restrictions. With effect of Friday 5th June, we will begin stage one of easing these restrictions.”

The President added that an abridged format for religious services can commence with 25% per cent attendance.

He further explained that religious services can be conducted with a minimum number of a 100 congregants and a maximum duration of one-hour per session with a mandatory one metre rule of social distancing between congregants.

He advised that handwashing facilities, hand sanitisers, disinfection and fumigation of churches, mosques and all other religious gatherings must take place before service begins.
