The National Teaching Council (NTC), a council responsible for licensing teachers, has opened an online registration portal for in-service teachers employed in either the public or private sector for data collection.
The registration is aimed at providing NTC with an updated digital database of all teachers in the country either public or private.
According to the NTC, the Teacher Portal Ghana (TPG) is designated for the registration and will also serve as an online hub for all continuous professional development activities and licencing of teachers.
Director for Training of Teachers-NTC, Lawrence Sarpong, in an interview with the B&FT explained that NTC is resolute on creating a single database of all teachers with the purpose of assisting the Ministry of Education (MoE) and other academic institutions seeking data on teachers for budgetary decision-making or employment intentions.
“The NTC, as part of its measures to properly regulate and equip teachers who are already practicing in the field, has opened the portal so that during this period of lockdown teachers can log-on to the portal and fill in their data.
“We already have the data of teachers who completed since introduction of the licencure examination in September 2018; but those who were already in the system need to also provide their data to the website,” he said.
Every teacher across the country is advised to use this lockdown period to familiarise him or herself with the NTC TPG web portal.
In order to complete ones’ registration successfully, teachers require an active email address; a SSNIT number; Staff ID (only for public or GES-employed teachers); Scanned passport picture for upload; Scanned evidence of professional training, such as Teacher Cert A, Diploma, PGDE, B.Ed., M.Ed., MPhil or PhD; and a scanned first appointment letter (as PDF, PNG or JPEG).
