The Health Ministry has secured financial clearance and is ready to post some 390 new medical doctors to various health facilities in the country, Minister for Health Kweku Agyeman-Manu has declared.
The minister disclosed this on the Floor of Parliament when he was answering a question posed by a member on behalf of MP for Krachi West, Helen Adjoa Ntoso, seeking answers to when a medical superintendent will be posted to the Krachi West District Hospital.
He noted: “The good news for me is that we got financial clearance only yesterday to actually employ 390 new doctors; and if Krachi West truly has not got a medical superintendent within the next four weeks or so, we will make sure that we post a medical superintendent to the hospital”.
He however indicated that following receipt of the notice to answer the question in Parliament, he made some checks which indicated there is already a medical superintendent at post at the Krachi West District Hospital.
“The information I got is the fact there are seven doctors in that hospital. Four of them are at post and three are in college trying to complete their specialisations. So, the data I have indicate that we have a medical superintendent in the hospital. That notwithstanding, I have asked the regional director to confirm the information and I will see how quickly we can rectify the matter,” the minister assured.
Over the years, the country’s health facilities – especially those in the rural areas – have been faced with a lack of adequate health personnel to help deliver quality healthcare for patients.
