Ghana, Mozambique deepen bilateral relations

The current global economic outlook calls for robust trade links between Ghana and its sister African countries for sustained mutual benefit, Eric Odoi-Anim-Ghana’s Ambassador to Mozambique, has said.

“There is need for closer economic cooperation, including expansion of the trade links between African countries for mutual benefit,” he said when presenting his letters of credence to the president of Mozambique, Felipe Jacinto Nyusi, in Maputo.

To deepen Ghana’s bilateral relations with Mozambique, Mr. Odoi-Anim called for educational exchanges and research collaborations between institutions of higher learning in both countries.

He also pledged to accelerate work of the Joint Technical Committee as a precursor and essential building block for the establishment of a permanent joint commission on cooperation between Ghana and Mozambique.

He added: “We are looking forward to sharing our experiences in governance with Mozambique; the setting-up of the Ghana Mission will work toward promoting cooperation between the various arms of government within the two countries”.

The President of Mozambique, Felipe Jacinto Nyusi, also argued the need for the two countries to intensify economic cooperation.

He reiterated the need for enhanced bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the areas of energy, infrastructure and agriculture, as well as cultural ties.

He expressed his admiration of Ghana’s progress in the governance space and looked forward to sharing the unique success story with Mozambique.

President Nyusi further recounted Ghana’s credentials as a torch-bearer in the struggle against colonialism, which resulted in the attainment of political independence by most African countries.

Mozambique is the only member of the Commonwealth which is not a former British colony.
