14 companies pre-qualified for oil blocks

Out of the 16 companies that bid for three oil blocks, the Licencing Round Committee has cleared 14 companies for the next stage of the bidding process.

The Energy Ministry, in a statement issued on Tuesday said: “The fourteen (14) companies that have been pre-qualified by the Committee for the next stage will be invited to submit their bids for the blocks for which they have been pre-qualified.

“The deadline for submission of the bids will be on May 21, 2019, and the blocks are expected to be awarded to successful bidders in August 2019.”

Of the two disqualified companies, one presented a bid that was invalidated since the particular block was purposely meant for only the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) while the other was disqualified for not meeting the prequalification requirements.

The 19-member Licencing Bids Rounds Evaluation and Negotiation Committee (LBRNC) was sworn into office mid-last year to play an advisory role to the sector ministry.

Ghana’s national oil company, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has been allocated one of the six available oil blocks on offer. Three of the blocks are to be allocated through open public competitive tender, while the other two will be allocated through direct negotiations.
