U-ton Engineering Limited, a Ghanaian-based engineering consortium and fibre infrastructure company, has successfully acquired an ISO standards certification.
The certifications are in three standards – ISO 9001:2015, ISO14001: 2015 and ISO45001: 2018 covering Quality Management systems, Environmental Management Systems and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.
In an interview with the B&FT at a cocktail reception to celebrate the milestone, Country Manager for U-ton Engineering, Mr. Afugu, said the feat is a very huge and remarkable one for the company.
“This puts us a step ahead of our competitors; and also in terms of legal requirements, it tells the whole world that we have international standards for whatever service we provide. We were lacking a lot of processes like business processes. We had a lot of chaos in our process, but this ISO certification shows we have a more refined process than we had previously,” said Mr. Afugu.
He added that the certification has provided the company a scientific way of selecting subcontractors and a refined process for ensuring quality standards and meeting to customers’ specifications.
According to him: “As a business operating in the technology space, this certification means a lot to us as it solidifies our capacity to not just satisfy the needs of our clients, but also ensure the safety of workers”.
The Country Director revealed that over the years U-ton has made it a priority to ensure employees work under the best environmental, health and safety standards.
He further stated that the certification does not signify the end of ensuring the right thing is done, but rather the beginning.
Mr. Afugu noted that this achievement has further pushed the company to be on its toes and do more to maintain the standards achieved. He assured that even though most companies relax after acquiring their ISO certification, U-ton Engineering Limited will continue to upgrade its operations in order to meet the various trends which may arise in the industry.
“I know that it is easy for companies to relax after achieving such feat, but ISO indicates an internationally credible firm that will ensure the right thing is done. As a company, we are also committed to ensuring we get all hands on deck to make sure we live up to expectations in these areas,” he said.
Mr. Afugu expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, employees and clients for their enormous contribution toward this achievement.
With about five years’ experience operating in the African telecommunications space, the company has engaged in an array of engineering activities mainly in Optical Fibre Networks; Micro-Ducts and Mini-Cables (MDMC) Supply and Installation, OPS and ISP Maintenance.
