The Chief Executive Officer of GEXIM, Mr. Lawrence Agyinsam, has indicated that the Bank will continue to support the Shea Industry in the Northern Sector of Ghana with financial and advisory supports, in order to improve living conditions for women in the Shea Value chain and generate income.
He said this when he addressed the official launch of World Shea EXPO 2020 at the La-Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra on Monday.
‘’To date, through a collaboration with the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP), we have sunk about GH¢40million into the industry,” he stressed during his address.
Mr. Agyinsam said the Project is key to the Bank, because it is in line with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision to transform Ghana into an industrialised country and provide meaningful livelihoods for its hardworking citizens.
As a potent raw material, the product is integrated into very sophisticated global production and supply chains and has tremendous power to propel rural economies and transform the lives of millions in our sub-region, Africa and the world as a whole, he stressed at the well-attended launch.
Hajia Samira Bawumia, wife of the vice-president, said that the Shea tree has now gone beyond being an integral part of life in the northern part of the country to become a viable economic venture.
“The collection and processing of shea-nuts are significant activities for women in those regions, since this provides them with income for livelihood and the demand for Shea has been growing and manufacturers are responding by creating products desired by global consumers,” she added.
She said an event such as the Shea Expo, which brings together players in the value chain, is an opportunity to expand knowledge on the Shea Industry.
Some Exhibitors at the launch expressed hope that their participation in the World SHEA EXPO will enable them to build networks for future expansion of their businesses.
The event will take place at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium at Tamale in the Northern Region from April 22-25, 2020.
The theme is ‘Repositioning the Shea Industry to Accelerate Ghana’s Export Diversification Agenda within the context of Ghana Beyond Aid’.
The SHEA EXPO 2020 will afford all stakeholders opportunity to showcase Ghana’s Shea-nut Industry, promote its products and create both local and International markets for it to thrive properly.
