The 5th edition of the Makutano Forum – the annual event organized by the first Congolese business network -kicks off today in Kinshasa, in the presence of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC), Felix Tshisekedi.
The Makutano Forum is the first economic event organized by and for business leaders of the DRC with the desire to accelerate the development of the country. It mobilizes, each year, more than 500 participants from 20 different countries across the globe.
Founded by business woman, Nicole Sulu and powered by the Makutano Network, the event is aimed at bringing together private actors and public authorities of the country with innovation to boost the growth and competitiveness of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In a statement, organisers of the event, Makutano Network noted that: “The Democratic Republic of Congo is a country experiencing a new political and economic thrill. This includes unexploited sectors, unused international funding, innovative financing, education, health and the progressive set up of R&D laboratories, many subjects can be developed and require real measures. The goal is to think outside the box and to identify innovative axes adapted to the economic, geographical and cultural ecosystem.”
It further stated that: “For that purpose, the DRC needs to draw inspiration from its African neighbors but also to include international experts in their thinking process. During the Makutano 2019, the delegates will all be gathered around concrete and strategic themes to boost the DRC’s growth in the face of major global changes: artificial intelligence, climate change, energy transition, sustainable economy”.
The President, Mr. Félix Tshisekedi is expected to talk more concretely about the business climate in the DRC.
According to the statement, his presence at the opening and closing of the event reflects the importance of the public-private dialogue for a more attractive and competitive business climate.
This 5th edition will be a catalyst for all stakeholders of a new economic era and will mobilize experts and companies from different African and international countries. It will revolve around different themes such as: Digitization, innovative assets of the DRC, sport business in Africa, contemporary African art, family business, outsourcing and insurance in the DRC and women in business, public / private partnerships in health field.
Dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include Ghana’s former President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, Mahamadou Issoufou (President of the Republic of Niger), Ellen-Johnson Sirleaf (former President of Liberia), Xavier Niel (CEO Illiad – Free), Tony Elumelu (entrepreneur and investor, founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation), Samuel Eto’o (High-level footballer and business man), Simon Tiemtoré (investor in Africa, CEO of Vista Bank Group and Lilium Capital), Yves Kabongo (KBG Capital, The Icon group), Akinwumi Adesina (President of the African Development Bank).
The rest are Anthony Kinzo (DG of the National Agency for the Promotion of Industry – ANAPI), Laetitia Kondolo (Congolese fashion designer and Rihanna stylist), Noella Coursaris (Foundatrice and CEO of e Malaika), Edem Adzogenu (co-founder of Afrochampions), Moustapha Sow (the wolf of African finance, CEO of SF Capital), Walé Adeosun (Founder and CEO of Kuramo Capital Management), Pierre Atepa Goubiaby (Architect Engineer who launched the project “The new route of steel and aluminum”), Sindika Dokolo (businessman, the largest art collector in Africa), Alain Kaninda (DG ARCA – Regulatory Authority and Insurance Control DRC), Eric Monga (President of Kipay Energy) and Massogbè Diabate-Toure (CEO of SITA SA).
