ZEN Petroleum Limited, a major player in the supply of fuels to the Mining Industry in Ghana, has won the 2018 Akoben Safety, Health, Environment and Community Affairs (SHEC) Audit Award at the Asanko Gold Mine.
ZEN Petroleum is a wholly Ghanaian-owned Oil Marketing Company and the supplier of diesel to the Asanko Mine located at Manso Nkran in the Amansie West district of the Ashanti Region, Ghana.
Asanko Gold Ghana Limited won the prestigious ‘Mining Company of the Year’ and ‘Best Performer in Innovation’ awards at the 2018 Ghana Mining Industry Awards organised by the Ghana Chamber of Mines, which hitherto recognised ZEN as the ‘Best Performer in Mine Supplies and Services’ for 2017. The Asanko Akoben Audit award was instituted in 2017, and is an Interdepartmental and Major Contractor Audit organised quarterly by Asanko Gold Mine, and aimed at ensuring continuous improvement and readiness for major audits by the Minerals Commission.
Presenting the award at a dinner organised for all winners, the Executive General Manager of Asanko Mine, Mr. Charles Amoah, commended ZEN for achieving this feat for the second time since Q4 2017 – adding that the Winner’s Trophy will be for keeps if ZEN wins it for a third time. He recognised ZEN Petroleum’s operational and SHEC record since April 2016, which ensures that the mine runs safely and optimally.
Responding, the Depot Manager of ZEN Asanko, Mr. Lord Joe-Asare, thanked Asanko management for the recognition and praised his team for the excellent work that resulted in this commendation. He assured management of deploying the international standards and experience gained from ZEN’s 3 ISO certifications in Quality Management Systems (ISO9001), Environmental Management Systems (ISO14001) and Health & Safety Management Systems (OHSAS18001) over the period toward the No Harm agenda and productivity at the mine.
The ZEN Asanko Depot is one of 7 low-sulphur diesel supply projects operated by ZEN Petroleum. The depot is safely operated by employees who are predominantly recruited from the mine’s catchment area.
