Seeking to develop a resourceful talent pool of staff to take up future management roles, Amenfiman Rural Bank Limited is in partnership with the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) to offer world-class training and skills development for staff of the bank.
CEIBS now has the responsibility to design and manage, as well as provide faculty for the programme. This new development will certainly be an improvement over the first batch of staff that participated in the maiden edition.
The new module will provide tools that will bridge the gaps between ideas, strategies and execution in order to drive growth and develop a competitive strategy that will enable the bank to maintain or improve upon its current enviable position of being the number-one rural bank in Ghana, and also to understand how it can sustain an innovative workplace culture.
This will enhance the knowledge, skills and competence to the banking industry in general, and ensure to the quality of workforce as required to advance the course of banking – particularly in this era of serious banking sector challenges and reforms among others.
The purpose of this unique human capital initiative is to upgrade the skills of staff so they can stand ready for higher and more responsible positions within the bank going into the future.
The programme, dubbed A-TAP, is a pioneering initiative of Amenfiman Rural Bank – introduced some three years ago with support from the bank’s board and designed to capture employee career development as a key corporate policy.
Speaking at the second cohort orientation module launch in Kumasi recently, the bank’s CEO Dr. Alex Asmah emphasised that as leaders in the rural banking industry the bank’s human resource capabilities need to be the best and always conscious of growth to warrant the bank’s leading role in the banking industry.
According to him, people are central to the success of businesses and are the solution to the myriad of problems that a business faces; and as an organisation in the business of banking, attracting and developing employees with the right skills and aptitudes, people remain the priority.
“We cannot meet our business goals or deliver on our objectives without attracting and retaining the most talented people,” he stressed.
He reiterated that the initiative has been successful and is an affirmation that the vision management had a few years ago – with support from the board of directors – has been fruitful.
On his part, the Head of HR and Administration Anthony Kwaw Adu Broni, has emphasised that management is delighted with the CEIBS partnership. According to him, the CEIBS partnership provides a skilled team of tutors, facilitators and coaches who bring a wealth of cross-industry and cross-discipline experience and expertise, offering breadth from both national and international perspectives.
The CEO and Executive Director of CEIBS Africa, Prof. Mathew Tsamenyi, applauded the numerous operational achievements of Amenfiman Rural Bank and said his outfit takes delight in the partnership because the bank has performed beyond the primary expectation after gross corporate due diligence conducted by the university.
According to him, the university has partnerships with over twenty thousand multinational organisations spread across the globe and they are impressed with the standard Amenfiman Rural Bank has set; and also, with the vision to give staff world-class training with an objective to solve very challenging technical problems in the banking industry.
He applauded CEO Dr. Alex Asmah for the vision, and advised other managers of rural banks to emulate this initiative.
