The 500-bed Military Hospital in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region will be completed and opened this year, President Nana Akufo-Addo has said.
The facility which begun in 2014 at a cost of US$180 million and contracted to the EUROGET Group, was expected to be completed and handed over to the state by the end of the first quarter of 2019.
But the project completion has delayed for sometime now.
In his State of the Nation Address yesterday, the President gave assurance that the project will be completed and opened this year.
During a visit to the project site last year, the Resident Engineer, Islam Sharawy, said the project was about 90 percent complete at the structural phase, with its road network also close to being tarred.
The visit to the project site showed that the administration block, wards and other quarters have been roofed whiles other visible structures were also speedily advancing.
Although Mr. Sharawy explained that the delay in the completion of the project was due to some encroachment on parts of the land the project was being sited, he was emphatic that it will be completed by the end of December, this year.
He said the development on the land took some time off their scheduled plans, and at some point, affected the work being done.
The completion of the project would ease the stress on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) which has been receiving referrals from all over the northern sector of the country among others.
