The seventh edition of Ghana’s premier economic forum, the Ghana Economic Forum (GEF), which brings together key policy makers, business leaders, and the wider investor community to deliberate on issues of mutual interest, opens today at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Over 500 chief executives, investors and financial decision-makers, and key policymakers are expected to attend the two-day event, from September 4-5, 2018.
The GEF is designed to support the development of Ghanaian businesses and facilitate dialogue between the private and public sectors.
Experts, led by Ing. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Senior Minister, will deliberate on the sub-theme for this year’s event – ‘Building a Competitive Economy for Sustainable Growth’.
Mr. Jeff Gable, Head of Research, Absa Group Ltd; Dr. Lord Mensah, Senior Lecturer, School of Business University of Ghana; Mr. Selorm Branttie, Global Strategist, MPedigree Network; and Mr. Henry Yentumi, Technical Adviser to Commissioner General, Ghana Revenue Authority are the other speakers that will address the first plenary of the 2018 GEF today.
On the focus group session on agriculture, Dr. Nurah Gyiele, Minister of State for Agriculture; Mr. Anthony Morrison, CEO, Agribusiness Chamber; Mr. Davis Korbor, National Best Farmer 2009; and Mr. Fakor Dovlo, Founder of REEL Consult will lead the discussions on how to leverage PPP to grow the agriculture sector.
Mr. Yeo Ziobeieton, Unilever Ghana; Mr. Zakari Banda, Deputy Director, Ghana Export Promotion Authority; Mrs. Catherine Krobo-Edusei, Founder & CEO, Eden Tree Ltd; and Mrs. Anna Himbson, Deputy Managing Director, NBSSI will lead the discussion on how boost economic growth through manufacturing.
The discussion on Fintechs will be led by Ms. Lucy Quist, Founder & CEO, Quist Blue Diamond; Mr. Romeo Bugyei, CEO IT Consortium; Mr. Derrydean Dadzie, Dreamoval; and Mr. Patrick Quantson, Technology Consultant.
Mr. Alhassan Andani, MD, Stanbic Bank; Dr. Joseph France, Head of Financial Stability Department, Bank of Ghana; Mr. Kojo Addae-Mensah, CEO Databank; and Mr. Sampson Akligoh, Ministry of Finance will discuss the role of the financial sector in fuelling a competitive Ghanaian economy.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, will grace the occasion and address the gathering on how government, with the support of the private sector, is building a competitive economy for sustainable growth and jobs tomorrow, September 5, 2018.
The discussion on building a competitive economy on the back of the right Investments for growth and jobs will be led by Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana; Mr. Joe Sackey, Chief Director, Ministry of Business Development; and Mr. David Ofosu Dorte, Partner, AB & David
The discussion on leveraging opportunities in the tourism and aviation sector will be led Hon. Kwabena Darko Mensah, Deputy Aviation Minister; Dr. Kobby Mensah, Tourism Marketing Expert, UGBS; Prof. Kodzo Gavua, Dean Department of Art, UG; and Capt. Samuel Thompson, COO, Africa World Airlines (AWA).
The session on industrializing to create jobs – stimulating industry for a self-sustained economy, will be led by Hon. Carlos Kingsley – Deputy Minister for Trade; Mr. Kobla Nyaletey, Director, Head of Markets, Barclays Bank Ghana &Nigeria; Mr. Ebenezer Amankwaa Minkah, CEO, Ekam Capital Ltd; Hon. Gifty Ohene Konadu, National Project Coordinator for 1D1F; and Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman, Jospong Group.
