The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Accra Regional Branch – in collaboration with KATA Solar and DHYBRID Power Systems – has held an entrepreneurial knowledge forum on solar electric energy in Accra.
The forum aims to sensitise members of the AGI Greater Accra Branch on the cost-effectiveness of solar electric power as an alternative source of power to the national grid and generators.
Seth Twum-Akwaboah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), AGI, explaining the rationale behind the programme said cost of electricity is a big problem to businesses in Ghana; and that technological advancement, particularly in solar energy, has come to solve that problem.
“The AGI wants to bridge the technological gap between information and knowledge about solar energy. It is cost-effective and efficient for business, hence the need for industries to adopt solar electric power,” he said.
Dr. Kojo Appiah, CEO of KATA Solar, in his presentation said solar electric cells have an over-25-year lifespan and provides more reliable power supply at a cheaper cost of about 40 percent to 50 percent less than what grid electricity provides.
“Ghana industries have to adopt solar PV systems because it is a viable investment that is cost-effective and saves power, leading to socio-economic development and energy security benefits.
“KATA team-members bring deep expertise, proficiency and experience in solar PV technology, together with on-the-ground knowledge of renewable energy policy and regulatory frameworks, to bear on successful project execution,” he said.
Fabian Bartzky, Technical Sales Manager for DHYBRID Power Systems, said DHYBRID has a solar power system called the Universal Power Platform (UPP), which is a modular energy management and smart-grid control solution that allows clients to get full transparency on their energy consumption.
“The holistic approach ensures an optimized energy management solution wherein the demand side as well as the production are corresponding,” he said.
KATA Solar Limited is a Solar PV project development company positioned to execute bankable projects in Ghana and West Africa – and manages solar PV projects through their complete value chain and life cycle by coordinating system design, engineering, construction, financing, operation and maintenance.
