Officials of Assin North Senior High School have been given two weeks by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to purge themselves of perjury or cough up over GH₵61,000.

According to the 2015 Auditor General’s report, the school made payments of GH₵163,000 without receipts and invoices to verify the payments.

Officials however, told the committee on Thursday in Takoradi, they had provided receipts to cover the said only amount but upon further probing by the committee, it came to light that receipts covering over GH₵61,000 had not been verified by auditors.

The apparent peddling of untruth under oath incurred the wrath of the chairman of PAC, James Avedzi.

Accountant of the school, John Mensah Korankye explained to the chairman of PAC, the delays in the certification.

“When I submitted the information to them, he assured me that they will be coming for 2016/2017 budget and audit so when I come they will certify it” Mr Korankye told members of the Committee when they took their turn during the  consideration of the Report of the Auditor-General on All the Pre-University Educational Institution in the Central region cited in both the 2015 and 2016 reports.

The chairman of PAC, Mr Avedzi maintained that the accountant’s explanation could amount to perjury and if it is found that it is untrue, he can suffer for it.

The Western and Central region PAC hearing is expected to end of Saturday, earlier Adisadel College, Academy of Christ the King, Holy Child School and other schools in the Central region .
