T&G Talking Drum Tour, a local tour operator, on Friday 18th May, led a team of expatriates from New York City, United States of America (USA), to tour Ahwerase Akuapem, in the Akuapem South District in the Eastern Region.
The team held interactive sessions with the teachers and pupils of community’s basic school, Ahwerase DA Primary and Junior High School (JHS), and other opinion leaders to have a firsthand information and education on the culture and traditions of the Akuapems, one of the major groups among the Akans.
In an interview with Nii Tetteh Barnor, one of the directors of the tour, he noted that the visit was not the first of its kind but rather the group from the USA has been supporting the community in different capacities especially education.
“We choose the school because we have a long term relationship with the people of the area. This relationship saw one of us enstooled as the development queen and also led to us building a computer laboratory for the primary school” he said.
Aba Gerri Scott, another director of the tour, affirmed their commitment to have a continuous relationship with the school. Before they left, a presentation was made to the school. Some of the items were books, pens and other teaching and learning materials.
