All seems set for the 2nd Poultry Value Chain (POVAC) Fair scheduled for Wednesday, 21st and Thursday 22nd March 2018 at the Eusbett Hotel-Sunyani.
It has been confirmed that the United States Department of Agriculture’s Regional Agricultural Counsellor, Charles Rush; Ron Strikker, The Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana; and Dr. Gyiele Nurah, Minister of state at the Presidency in charge of Food and Agriculture, will be the Special Guests of Honour at the occasion.
Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa – Team Lead at Agrihouse Foundation and organiser for the USDA GPP Poultry Fair (POVAC) – in her statement expressed excitement about the event and the contribution it is set to make in creating awareness of the opportunities within the Poultry value chain, and encouraged stakeholders to patronise the 2-day fair at the Eusbett Hotel, Sunyani.
This year’s event, which comes under the theme ‘Employment Creation along the Poultry Value Chain: the Public Private Partnership Approach’, will as usual bring poultry sector value chain representatives together to promote, exchange ideas, forge sustainable business partnerships and promote best practices to grow poultry in Ghana. The idea is to sustain the poultry industry by connecting the public sector to the private, which is a great starting point toward commercialising the industry and thereby creating more jobs.
On the opening day of the activity-packed Fair, Dr. Charles Stark, Associate Professor of stored Product/Post Harvest Entomology and Plant, Oklahoma State University, USA; Dr. George Opit and Dr. Thomas Nortey (Lecturers) will take turns on the Economic discussion of Poultry Nutrition, Feed Ingredients, testing and improved technologies for quality feed preparation along the poultry value chain fair. The second topic for the opening-day Seminar will dwell on the theme ‘Poultry as a Business: The PPP Approach’, and be taken by Mr. Kwame Agyemang Tuffour, CEO-Jokas Farms
The second day of the event will not be different in its intellectual and technical activities, as it will have Mr. Kayode Oladipo and Mr. Kwamina Arkorful Director, Animal Production (Ministry of Food and Agric) dissecting the theme ‘Creating Employment through the PVC: The case of Ghana, Nigeria and Togo’. Also, the last seminar discussion for the day will be with the theme ‘Poultry processing and Marketing: A potential for Job-Creation in the PVC’, to be delivered by Mr. Joseph Boakye Yiadom, of Joerees farms.
The programme highlights for the two days of the event will also include Exhibitions that have companies and industry players showcase their products and services for two days. There will also be Business to Business (B2B) sessions that will provide avenues to establish business relationships, network, discuss and sign contracts; and Food Bazaar, that will showcase exclusive eggs and chicken dishes.
Aside from corporate sponsorship from Frankatson, Park Agrotech, Holland Akorkor and partnership by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Poultry Value Chain (POVAC) Fair is organised by the Ghana Poultry Project (GPP), Assist Management in Poultry Layer Industry by Feed Improvement and Efficiency Strategy (AMPLIFIES), and Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers (GNAPF); and is supported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Agrihouse Foundation, a non-governmental agricultural capacity building, innovation and project management organisation with a special focus on changing and shaping the conversation on agriculture through the promotion of people-impact programsme, projects, exhibitions and initiatives targetting students, women, farmers, farming associations, agribusinesses and the entirety of actors within the value chain.
