Distinguished individuals and companies within the country’s logistics and transport value chain have been rewarded for their seamless contribution to growth of the sector, at the maiden Ghana Logistics and Transport Awards (GLOTA Awards) held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The awards, which were held on the theme ‘Driving the Growth of Ghana’s Logistics and Transport Sector through Effective Recognition System’, recognised outstanding industry players for their excellent service delivery and overall performance that is pushing growth of the transport and logistics sector.
Apex Shipping and Commercial Company (ASCO) was adjudged Overall Best Logistics and Transport Company of the Year 2017, while Teamwork Freight Services emerged as the runner-up.
The award for Best Chief Executive Officer in the Logistics and Transport Sector was won by Mr. Richard Ackah, CEO of R&J Express Logistics Limited.
DHL Ghana Limited, O.A Travel and Tour Transport Company and Leasafric Ghana Limited won awards for Best Courier Company 2017, Best Commercial Transport Company 2017 and Best Car Rental Company 2017 respectively.
Jonmoore International scooped the award for 2017 Best Haulage Company; Network Freight Forwarding Company won the award for 2017 Best Freight Forwarding Company; while Philip Nii Lartey of Omni Media and EIB Network were recognised with 2017 Best News Reporter in Logistics and Transport Operations and 2017 Best Transport and Logistics Media Organisation respectively.
Gatyfax Logistics Company Limited took home the award for 2017 Best Promising Transport and Logistics Company.
Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in a speech read by his Technical Economic Advisor, Dr. Samuel Kwadwo Frimpong, indicated that the logistics and transport sector plays a pivotal role in enhancing economic growth and stability for both domestic and international trade.
He said the country’s logistics and transport sector, in recent years, has developed significant policies and programmes to improve infrastructure and operations, increase revenue generation and promote standards and productivity.
While commending the award winners, he appealed to industry stakeholders – especially the National Road safety Commission (NRSC) and the media – to intensify awareness on safe driving as the festive season draws closer.
‘’Together, let’s seek to minimise the incidence of lorry accidents and fatalities of road carnage that characterises the period of yuletide,” he said.
Mr. Don Obilor, Chairman of 2018 GLOTA Organising Committee, in his remarks said the event was organised to appreciate the efforts and contributions of some institutions and personalities as a way of promoting standards and excellence in the logistics and transport sector.
