ASKY, ET to start Accra-Los Angeles flights Dec 17

Ghanaian passengers will from December 17, 2018 be able to travel from Accra, Ghana, to Los Angeles, USA, via Lome, Togo 3x a week.

The flight, to be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, will depart Accra at 10:50am local time and arrive in Los Angeles at 19:35pm LA time.

The new service has been made possible through a partnership between ASKY Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines.  Asky will fly passengers from Accra to Lome, where they will connect to Los Angeles on Ethiopian.

The new service is expected to provide more traveling options for passengers travelling to the United States, and in particular Los Angeles and neighbouring areas that are not served with direct flights from Accra.

Los Angeles, a beautiful Southern California city, is at the heart of the US film and television industry.

There is a large Ghanaian community in LA. Indeed, according to Eric Brightwell, the city has been home at one time or another to several actors of Ghanaian descent, including Boris Kodjoe, Jaye Davidson, Kwesi Boakye, Nana Gbewonyo, Sam Richardson, Sam Sarpong, Senyo Amoaku and Sufe Bradshaw, and Filmmaker Leila Djansi.

The influence of Ghanaian music in LA dates back to the early 1960s when Prof. Emeritus Kwabena Nketia was appointed by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to teach music. Kwasi Badu, a former head of the National Dance Ensemble of Ghana, and Kobla Ladzekpo also taught music at the school in the 1970s.

Asky Airlines Country Manager for Ghana, Worlanyo Afadzinu said: “As an airline, we are constantly exploring new ways to connect our passengers to the rest of the world and bring the world closer to our Ghanaian passengers.

“We believe the partnership with ET will provide more travelling options and improve the travelling experience between Accra and North America.”
