The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has received donations from three companies toward this year’s National Farmers Day celebration.
The companies are Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GHPA), Ghana Cement (GHACEM) and Motor King. The donations are expected to accelerate preparations toward the 34th edition of the National Farmers’ Day celebration.
GPPA donated a cheque for GH¢20,000 and seven cartons of cutlasses, with Ghacem donating 1,000 bags of cement while Motor King – a dealer in motor-tricycles – gave a GH¢20,000 cheque to support this year’s celebrations.
The gesture forms part of the three companies’ corporate social responsibility and commitments to development of the agricultural sector.
This year’s event, to be held at Tamale in the Northern Region, is expected to attract stakeholders in agriculture and fisheries from across the country and beyond.
Receiving the donations, Minister of State in-charge of Agriculture and Chairman of the planning committee for this year’s celebration, Dr. Jule Nura, thanked the three for coming to the ministry’s aid.
He said the donations will go a long way to recognise and reward hard-working farmers in the country.
National Farmers Day is held on the first Friday of every December.
