Tanokrom people benefit from free health screening

The Women’s Wing of Love Kingdom Ministries has organized a free health screening for the people within Tanokrom and its surrounding communities near Takoradi.

Residents of Tanokrom were screened in malaria, blood pressure, hepatitis B, breast examination; checked their weight and height as well as blood group.

Dr. Osei Edwin, Senior House Officer at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital told the media after the screening that it was important for the citizens were educated on Lassa fever, hepatitis, proper hand washing and the need to keep the environment clean.

“Free medication was given to the individuals depending on the type of disease whilst some were referred to the various hospitals within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis”, he said.

He mentioned that the most diagnosed disease was hypertension; some have been referred to the hospital for further check-up and explained that genetics, race, sex and lifestyle are some of the causes of hypertension.

Again the Doctor advised residents to maintain healthy lifestyles, avoid alcohol, smoking, eat lot of fruits and vegetables as well as exercise regularly.

Reverend Ebenezer Koomson, the Minister in charge of Love Kingdom Ministries explained that the health screening forms part of the church’s corporate social responsibility.

He said good health care is important to the socio-economic development of the country; if you are sick, you cannot do anything for yourself let alone go to work.

“The health screening is the first of its kind organized by the church, looking at how a lot of people have participated that we want this, to be an annual affair”, he added.
