Kumbungu Assembly develop strategy to fight Delta Variant

The Kumbungu District Assembly collaboration with Ghana Health Services and Kings Medical Centre has mapped out a strategy towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and the new Delta Variant from entering the District.

In view of that, some health personnel have been trained and assigned into the communities to identify visitors and head potters that arrive from the south for check-ups to prevent the spread of the virus.

The exercise is also being done with support from the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office-United Kingdom.

The Kings Medical Center would be in charge of assessing the risks, immediate and intermediate needs for screening, contact tracing, testing of suspected cases, and referral of confirmed cases to the treatment center in the district.

Speaking at a press conference, the District Coordinating Director for Savelugu, Mahmud Osman said: “It is important that we ensure that there is plan to enhance the fight of the pandemic, especially with the new variant.”

He added that: “As a close-knit society, we are all responsible for reducing our own risk of infection, and that of our communities. Simple preventive measures that everyone can adopt to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, include, frequently washing hands using clean running water and soap, or alcohol-based hand rub, wearing of face mask when going out of your home, refrain from spitting in public places, avoid close contact with anyone who has fever and cough, avoid handshakes, practice social distancing and avoid crowded place among others” he added.

He said, the fight against rumors and misinformation is a vital part of the battle against this virus and that all citizens are encouraged to report any rumor or suspected case of COVID-19 in the communities to the nearest health facility or call on the District Director of Health services for proper investigation.

He also encouraged the general public to remain calm and maintain personal hygiene measures while management help to curb the spread of the virus.
