Guinness to assist clients with GH¢10m in ‘Rise Up’ loyalty programme

Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL), the country’s leading total beverage manufacturing company, has launched a GH¢10 million loyalty programme to help distributors and bar owners across Ghana get back on their feet.

The ‘Rise Up’ nationwide loyalty promotion also dubbed ‘Yen Nyin Mbom’, literally standing for let’s get through this together, is aimed at assisting the over 1,500 key wholesalers, retailers and distributors of the company’s products, to bounce back and rise above the excruciating hardship inflicted on their business by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Yen Nyin Mbom promo, which is the second edition, will reward customers with outstanding sales performances with prizes such as: Guinness products, brand new mini-truck, TV sets, deep freezers and refrigerator, mobile phones, free DSTV subscription and airtime, among many others.

Corporate Relations Director, GGBL, Sylvia Owusu- Ankomah, addressing the launch event at Marriot Hotel, said: “As part of our 60th anniversary celebration, Guinness Ghana has rolled out rise up in support of customers who we have partnered over the period to ensure that they successfully come back to business.

As we are all aware, COVID-19 has impacted heavily on the tourism sector and most of over business partners in terms of wholesalers, retailers are classified under this sector and most of them has to close down shops for over four months and we are hoping that through this rise up campaign, we will use the GH¢10 million to help them to ensure that they benefit and are able to support their businesses to thrive again.”

She also indicated that additionally, Guinness Ghana is deploying Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers, soaps and other items to clients to ensure that their business environments are secured and safe from the corona virus.

Director of Health Promotion, Ghana Health Service, Dr. Aboagye Da Costa, in his address emphasized that now that the ban on drinking open air bars has been lifted, most of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)as well as brewery companies like Guinness Ghana have steadily resume business operations.

However, safety protocols that will make life easier for all citizens must be strictly adhered to as people continue to have fun, and individuals as well has a responsibility to be very cautious in their daily activities both in and out of home.

“Guinness has taken the bold decision to lessen the burden of government by being a responsible corporate institution, supporting bars and pubs with GH¢10 million under which they will distribute items such as Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers, hand washing soaps, among other PPE, and this initiative must be commended,” he said.

He further cautioned the wholesalers, retailers and distributors of GGBL to remember that they are at high risk of spreading the virus in bars if they do not provide hand washing equipment to enable hand washing and sanitizing regularly, washing drinking glasses with warm water and soap, as well as disinfecting tables, chairs and surfaces often.

Representing Ghana Tourism Authority, Alex Boakye, Standard & Quality Assurance Manager, narrated that the tourism industry was estimated to grow by some 5.3 percent but the advent of COVID-19 has caused a significant setback to that growth, therefore initiatives such as the GH¢10 million to support the sector will be of immense help to the industry.

The Ghana Drinking Bar Operators Association (NADBOA), on one hand commended GGBL for the assistance to its members and on the other hand urged its members to continue to work hard in order to ensure that the support yields the expected results to grow the sector.
