The Atonsu MA Cluster of Schools in Kumasi is the latest beneficiary of Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) drive which seeks to fully refurbish and stock computer laboratories in basic schools across the country.

This is as part of the technology savvy Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to contribute to effective teaching and learning of ICT amongst basic schools in the country.

The Atonsu MA Cluster of Schools, which was established in 1965 and currently has a student population of over 2000 pupils, is made up of Atonsu M/A JHS A, Atonsu M/A JHS B, Atonsu M/A Primary A and B and the New Atonsu Bethel Presby.

The school, prior to this exercise, had no computers to facilitate practical teaching and learning of ICT. Following GTBank’s decision to embark on an ICT drive across the nation, the computer laboratory has been fully refurbished with new desks, a printer, projector, two air conditioners, 41 desktop computers and internet access.

Addressing dignitaries at the handing over ceremony, General Manager in charge of Internal Services of GTBank, Iris Richter-Addo, reiterated the Bank’s commitment to championing quality ICT education in the country.

“The world is now driven largely by technology and so there is the need to equip our children with the knowledge and skills they would need to face the future. We will continue to expand this initiative to other parts of the country, whilst contributing to the development of individuals in the communities we operate in,” Ms Richter-Addo stated.

Municipal Director of Education, Rev. Ebenezer Oteng Marfo, commented that the donation of computers to the school was a step towards greatness for the students. “It is a good thing that GTBank has done today. Now our children can practice what they have learnt all this while. They are being given the keys to a whole new world out there; they cannot but be great.”

Expressing his appreciation to Management of GTBank, Headmaster of the Atonsu JHS A, Mr. Ben Ameyaw said, “This is something we have been praying for so long and it gives us joy that today, GTBank has made this dream a reality for us. Our children can now boast of a beautiful and well-equipped computer laboratory that will enable them rub shoulders with colleagues from other top schools. We are very grateful to GTBank.”
