James Kwofie steps down as Managing Director of Ghana Post

The 2020 Outstanding Managing Director, public sector, Mr. James Kwofie, bows out of Ghana Post effective 31st October 2021.

He expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana for the opportunity given him to serve under his government and mother Ghana in the capacity of Managing Director, Ghana Post. He was also grateful to Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Minister of Communications and Digitalisation for the opportunity to serve the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation through Ghana Post.

According to Mr. Kwofie, his term at Ghana Post has been exhausted as he bows out effective 31st October 2021. Mr. Kwofie’s administration saw a turnaround of the company’s revenue from 46million to 76million in 2020. He is hopeful that the company will perform above budget in the year 2021. According to him, as at end of September 2021, Ghana Post has achieved about 85% of its budget. He continued that work culture has improved as physical structures have seen transformation.

Mr. James Kwofie adopted a strategy that sought to establish the pillars of growth in his first year and got the right talents from within same organisation with few outside recruits to make this happen. Telling how the turnaround happened, Mr. Kwofie revealed that he gradually got both management and union to buy into the vision, first with management and later the union.

It was not a smooth journey, he admitted. “In the beginning we faced obstacles and setbacks seeing the vision through but we believed that Ghana Post needed the hard start”, he added. He revealed that there was the need to introduce new interactive website and also set up a 20 seater ultramodern call centre in the year 2017. This decision he recalled, awarded Ghana Post the best Universal Postal Union call centre and best EMS customer care for the years 2017 and 2018 respectively.

To get the staff on board, Mr. Kwofie said Management introduced performance management system. A system which was fearlessly debated by the union until in 2020 the union leaders signed to accept it. Mr. Kwofie’s proudest moment as the Managing Director was leading the Company to successfully launch the national digital property addressing system.

The outgoing dynamic MD of Ghana Post, Mr. James Kwofie, served as the Chairman of the West African Postal Conference between 2018 and 2020. He was also elected to serve on the EMS Cooperative Board of the Universal Postal Union on ad personam.

Mr. Kwofie was full of praise for the staff of Ghana Post for the overwhelming support to his administration and also appreciated both Management and the George Afedzi Hayford led Board of Directors for their support.
