Ahotor FM, Abrantie College give new twist to CSR

Listeners to Ahotor 92.3FM in its catchment area at Lashibi in Accra had a lot to feel good about recently when the radio station, in partnership with the Abrantie College of Fashion and Cosmetology at Baatsonaa in Accra, offered them a range of free services.

The services which were provided at the premises of Ahotor FM, included massage, wig caps fixing, pedicure, manicure, hair shampooing and blowing, makeup, braiding and sewing of clothes.

Many companies in their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreaches, often provide services related to areas such as education, health, women and children’s empowerment and sanitation to beneficiary communities.

According to Jacinta Happy Sulemana, Ahotor FM’s Administration and Human Resource Manager, her outfit felt it would be appropriate to also offer listeners in places like Lashibi, Ashaiman, Tema, Nungua and Teshie a certain sense of wellness to enhance their general disposition.

“We know the usual CSR things corporate bodies like to embark on and we have done some of those in the past. This time around, we surfaced with a feel-good programme for individuals, including our staff, which was well-received.

“We all face stress on daily basis so the event was a good way to help people relax mind and body,” the Ahotor FM official said.

The team from Abrantie College had no moment of rest as people kept coming in for the variety of emotionally-healthy treats on offer. Those with fabrics to be sewn picked them up from Ahotor FM a few days later as the items had to be sent for completion at the Abrantie College campus.

“Turnout was good and we were happy with what we managed to offer the public on the day,” said Abrantie College’s Marketing Officer, Eric Afful. “People were happy to get such services for free. They kept coming and coming. It is always a privilege to partner the media on projects.”

Both parties in the event said they would be happy to work together again in the future.
