JarkWayne Missions, a US-based Non-Governmental Organsation, has conducted a free medical screening exercise for children at the Teshie Orphanage in Accra as part of its activities to combat the coronavirus disease as well as share love as the month of February is noted for.

The NGO also donated an undisclosed amount of money including some food items and drinks. They also exposed them to the importance of personal hygiene such as regular handwashing, brishing of teeth, bathing twice a day amongst others.

Members of the NGO also engaged the children in some fun activities such as face painting, dancing competition among others whilst observing all the protection protocols on COVID-19.

Speaking to the media, Alexander Gyan, Project Manager for JarkWayne Missions, noted that the increase in the COVID-19 cases and the recorded ones among children necessitated the need for the free health screening.

“Orphans are people who usually miss out on regular medical screening because they don’t have funds for that. The onus lies on us, as Civil Society Organiations and NGOs to come together and provide these needs for their total well-being”, he suggested.

He added that: “We, at JackWayne Missions, acknowledge this essential need to provide free medical screening for these children and identify any of them with hidden underlying health conditions that could make them more prone to contracting the COVID-19.”

Mr. Gyan also emphasized the need to show love to the less privileged especially in the month of February, also known as the month of love.

“It is very prudent that people realise that giving to loved ones is very important but the greatest gift you can give is to someone who cannot pay you back or reciprocate this love to you in anyway. This form of giving, though may look little in your sight, could change the lives of people forever. So if we need change, we have to start from somewhere.”

He admonished individuals and other organisations to take advantage of the month and provide for the less privileged in society especially in this era of the coronavirus pandemic.

The JackWayne Missions provides support and empowerment initiatives with core interest in education for sustainable future for the youth without compromising integrity and hard work while leveraging on partnerships for development.

On behalf of the Teshie Orphanage, Mr Moses Lamptey expressed extreme gratitude to the NGO for their thoughtfulness and encouragement as they deal with the pandemic.

He said: “The pandemic has affected us all and even thiugh we are not a business, the businesses, NGOs and Civil Society organsiations have been affected greatly and this has come a long way to bite us in terms of the donatins we receive.”

He described JackWayne’s activities to the orphabage as timely and ‘God-sent’. He took the opportunity to call on other NGOs to support the cause.
