Global Cargo and Commodities wins two at 2021 Ghana Shippers Awards

Shipping and Logistics giant, Global Cargo and Commodities Limited, picked up two prestigious awards for its outstanding contribution to the sector last Friday at the 2021 Ghana Shippers Awards held in Accra.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Jacob Gbati, and his team topped the categories for Company of the Year and Logistics Service Provider of the Year.

Commenting on the award, Mr. Gbati said the recognition did not come as a surprise to them, given the exceptional service his outfit provides for the industry and the country as whole.

“We know our worth; we know what we are capable of doing. We are equally big in shipping; we have four vessels in Tema Port which no shipping line currently has. We are not only giant in Ghana but giant in neighbouring countries and other parts of the world. Our brand is well-known and we are competing favourably with all foreign companies,” he told the B&FT in an interview.

He commended staff of the company for the strong team and hard work which have earned the ship-handling company such a reputation in the country. He also expressed gratitude to clients and customers for being loyal to them all these years.

Transport Director of the company, Mary Namdi – also commenting on the award, said it has rather encouraged them not to relent but rather improve on their service delivery, always keeping customer satisfaction in mind as the company’s top priority.

The 2021 Ghana Shippers Awards is fourth in the series, a collaboration between the Ghana Shippers Authority and Globe Productions.

The ceremony was held on October 1, 2021 themed ‘The Digital Maritime and Shipping Industry: Impact on our Economy’, to recognise achievements by local and international companies which have played a defining role in moving the shipping industry forward.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Globe Productions – organiser of the award, Latif Abubakar, said the benchmarks for shortlisted nominees were based on some key performance indicators (KPIs) in the standards of excellence, including information technology for couriers, safety and competitive pricing.

Mr. Abubakar explained that the shortlisted nominees weighed above the scores and survey done by the Ghana Shippers Authority, which is the major partner in handling technical aspects of the awards.

He noted that the awards scheme is a benchmark of excellence for carrier performance despite the recurring constraints.
