2017 Nestle Milo U-13 champions’ league launched

Nestle Ghana Limited has launched the 2017 edition of its flagship Milo Under-13 Champions League in Accra as it seeks to unearth the next breed of young soccer talents in the country while encouraging the need for healthy living among children.

About 10,000 pupils drawn from 44 qualifying schools in the 10 regions of the country will participate in this year’s competition.

Managing Director for Nestlé Ghana Mrs. Freda Duplan, speaking at the grand launch in Accra, indicated that the tourney is the company’s way of developing grassroot football while promoting healthy living among children.

“Sports plays a vital role in the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and in nation building,” she noted.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, applauded Nestle Ghana for the laudable initiative with a call for the extension of the competition to cover girls in subsequent editions.

“The Sports Ministry will continue to offer our support to the project as it is an avenue to develop future national team players …, we will also ask that you include girls in the subsequent editions, we will see to it that government supports this initiative.”

Ex-Black Stars captain and tournament icon, Stephen Appiah, relished another opportunity to  mentor the boys and train the pupils on the basic football principles as well as inculcate in them the values teamwork, confidence, determination and discipline.

This year’s Milo Champions League will be in two stages and teams from all ten regions of the country will be participating.

The zonal competitions will comprise 12 schools (per zone) vying for the top place in their zones. Winning schools from the Zone will qualify for the National finals.
