Police must be must professional during post-election troubles…MP
The Member of Parliament for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem(KEEA),Samuel Atta-Mills has emphasised the need for security agencies particularly the Police Service to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties in protecting citizens during post-election violence.
His comments follows a statement made on the floor of Parliament on the seizure of public facilities in the aftermath of elections by Hon. Kennedy Kankam, the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, who indicated that there have been acts of lawlessness whenever there is a change of government.
Similarly, the Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu,Hon. Alhaji A.B.A.Fuseini also spoke on the acts of violence and destruction of property by thugs in the Sagnarigu district and Tamale metropolis.
According to Hon. Atta-Mills, the lawlessness associated with political lines does not augur well for the country.
“We all need to stop this acts of violence, its one country and we all have to move forward.”
Asked whether the onus lies with him as a lawmaker to educate his constituents, he stated that; “It is true that as lawmaker we need to be able to educate people, but I also call on the police service for them to do their job, right now it looks like the security agencies only play to the party in power.
If the party in power is doing something that may not be right, they just sit aloof for fear that they will be taken care of, so I think the police need to get up and do the job they are supposed to do, whether they are members of the ruling party or not, they need to take action devoid of partisanship.”
The MP described as disheartening, the trend in the country now , where people are being judged by their party affiliation, which he reckons must stop and the country be rather put first.
