“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak” Rachel Zoe. This year’s Glitz Style Awards seeks to celebrate individuals setting trends and defying the odds with their fashion and style.
Once again the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel last weekend hosted another edition ofGlitz Style Awards. The 2017 edition happens to be the 3rd being held since it started in 2015. Glitz Style Awards has become arguably the leading glamorous fashion event in Ghana which is not just targeted at fashion entrepreneurs or people working in fashion but also personalities from various industries such as media, entertainment, politics and business.
With a mission to strengthen the growing fashion industry by establishing, developing and promoting international industry standards here in Ghana, Glitz Style Awards celebrates these personalities in a glamorous and experiential manner while creating buzz internationally.

Let’s talk about the set up. I have attended all three events since it started in 2015 and I must admit the set up gets better by the year. From the cocktail ground to the red carpet areas to the main ball room hall all looked fantastic and top notch. They offered more Red Carpet and photo taking places such as the antique corner, 360 Camera Samsung QLED area to allow guests more options to take photos.
The Red Carpet was hosted by Nikki Samonnas and James Gardiner while John Dumelo hosted the main event serving guests with some good laugh and entertainment. There were special appearances from the Minister of Tourism, Catherine Afeku, Stephanie Okereke Linus and Silvia Njoki amongst others.
Now let’s talk about the awards. The biggest award of the night went to Samira Bawumia, Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana. She was awarded Style Icon of the Year for her great sense of fashion which has become an inspiration to many young ones.
Also, Joselyn Dumas was given an honorary award for being the Best Dressed Celebrity as well as Radford University for their Outstanding Contribution to Fashion.
On the main awards, Berla Mundi won Most Stylish Media Personality of the Year, Bola Ray (NathanielKwabenaAnokyeAdisi) won Most Stylish Business Executive; Okyeame Kwame, Most Stylish Artiste; Zynnell Zuh won Most Stylish Movie Star; Nana Akua Addo won the Best Dressed Celebrity on the Red Carpet.
Other winners include Sima Brew, Red Carpet Designer of the Year; Roselyn Ashkar, Model of the Year; Valerie Lawson, Make-up Artist of the Year; Quophi Akotuah, Emerging Designer of the Year; Nii Djarbeng Lightville, Fashion Photographer of the Year.
And our Nigerian counterparts didn’t leave empty handed. They won all the categories they were nominated in including Best Designer of the Year(Africa) by Mai Atafo, Style Influencer went to Toke Makinwa and Best Fashion Blog (Africa) went to Bella Naija.
The night saw some exciting performances from Wutah who have recently reunited after going apart for a few years. With songs such as ‘kotosa’ and their new single ‘bronya’, guests were up and dancing to great songs from this duo. Other performances from Akwaboah, King Promise and comedy from OB sealed the event as an exciting and fun filled event.
In all, the 2017 edition of Glitz Style Awards was an incredible one. I applaud Claudia Lumor and her team for pulling off yet another beautiful Glitz Style Awards 2017. I wish many other fashion award event organizers in Ghana will take a cue from this and invest in organizing awards event with such attention to giving guests an experience.
