Golden Movie Awards comes off in July

The Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAA) is set to take off on the 8th of July this year to honor the achievements in Africa television, digital media and film industry. 

The GMAA is a yearly organized award scheme that seeks to credit outstanding individuals in the African movie industry who have impacted and excelled in the movie world in the year under review. GMAA is organized by NMJ Ghana and its African Partners and had it maiden edition in 2015.

Under this year’s theme, ‘empowering the filmmaker’, Mimi Andani, Director of GMAA stated “As you all know GMAA is an annual event that seeks to award which seeks to honor excellence in movie making around the country and the African Diaspora.”

She further stated that this year’s awards will consider feature films, documentaries, animations and short films.

The Awards also has categories like, Golden Writer, Golden Cinematography, Golden Director, Golden Story, Overall Golden Movie, Golden Actress, Golden Actor, Golden Discovery amongst others.

The video submission which started in from 1st April will be ending on the 10th of May and it’s opened to all African countries.

Last year the second edition of the Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAA) came off at the Kempinski Hotel Accra last Saturday with Nana Obiri Yeboah’s ‘Cursed Ones’ winning the top honors including Overall Best Film, Best Director and Best Art Direction.

The movie also won the Supporting Actress (Drama) nod for Ama .K. Abebrese. The ceremony which was attended by movie makers and stars from Ghana and Nigeria saw Ghana sweeping 23 awards while Nigeria took home six.

This year, although the location hasn’t been given yet, there will also be a public viewing and a road show before the set date across the Shopping Malls to show free Movies for Ghanaians as the Awards marks its 3rd anniversary.

Although last year came with many positives there were certain challenges that came along with the Awards which Ms Andani assured that this year would be taken care of.
